I do believe this could be the uncle of Harold Dillard of Hackensack who was killed in action during the Vietnam War. Harold Dillard’s parents had died when he was young and an Uncle Sylvester Fields and his wife took on raising Harold Dillard and his older brother George Dillard. A Sylvester Fields is quoted in the article which appeared in the Record when Harold Dillard was reported killed in action. 

Sylvester Fields is listed under “Between Major Conflicts” at this time because he would have been of draft age in 1948 Between World War II and the Korean War.
